During Megan's short life she spent 7 months out of 9 in hospital

Jemima is a Miracles Case Worker who joined us three years ago. She and her family have been through so much but have found the strength to help other families. This is her story.

My name is Jemima. I am a mother to 3 beautiful children, Rebekah, Taylor and Nathan. I also had another girl, Megan, who sadly died at 9 months of heart disease. In addition, I have had 3 miscarriages and an ectopic pregnancy.

During Megan's short life she spent 7 months out of 9 in hospital 25 miles away from home. It was a very difficult time. Living in a hospital so far away from my husband and my other children was draining, exhausting and upsetting.

Shortly after Megan died, a lady from our local church approached Miracles requesting help and support for our family. That's when we were offered a respite break. It helped us immensely. A chance to see our children laughing even though we were all breaking.

Miracles commitment to helping families who are facing a similar situation to the one I lived through for nine months made me want to help. So when I was asked to join the Miracles team as a Case Worker I jumped at that opportunity. I was honoured to be chosen to be a part of a wonderful team that could make such a difference in people’s lives. I know I can't help everyone, but I can be a part of the Miracles team that reaches and supports families with critically ill children – that’s enough.

During my time with Miracles as a Case Worker I have managed to help support several families. It is not easy to raise a child who requires extra medical care and attention. It is not easy to live your life in the hospital whilst trying to care for your family at home – it can tear you apart. Somehow I made it work, but so many families don’t - they need somebody to lean on. I hope I’m strong enough to offer the comfort and support needed by those who turn to Miracles for help - having been in their situation myself, I know exactly what they are going through.

This is Megan with her mother Jemima, her father and brother.
